Sulfur powder is the raw material for manufacturing sulfuric acid, and its chemical characteristics


  The main raw material of industrial sulfuric acid production is sulfur powder. At present, there are more than 100 sulfuric acid manufacturing enterprises in China. The raw material used by these enterprises is generally solid sulfur, and a few manufacturers will use liquid sulfur. The powder state of the solid sulfur is actually what we call sulfur powder. This kind of raw material is generally from abroad.

  At present, the main raw materials for sulfuric acid production are pyrite, smelting flue gas, sulfur, gypsum, sulfur-containing natural gas and oil, waste acid cracking, and so on. In China, the main raw materials are pyrite, smelting flue gas, sulfur.

  China is rich in pyrite resources, while sulfur powder resources are relatively scarce. In the desulfurization work of the coal gas chemical industry, the tail gas treatment of the thermal power department is widely used, and this part of technology has been relatively mature in China. The current tail gas treatment device is the limestone gypsum method, which is not suitable for China's national conditions. Other methods such as ammonia acid desulfurization, electron beam desulfurization, seawater desulfurization, alkaline and oxide desulfurization coexist.

  Physical properties of pure sulfuric acid made from sulfur powder:

  Pure sulfuric acid is generally a colorless oily liquid with a density of 1.84 g / cm3 and a boiling point of 337 ℃. It can dissolve with water in any proportion and release a lot of heat to make the water boil.

  When sulfuric acid is heated to 290 degrees, it will release sulfur trioxide and become a very high solution. When it is heated to more than 300 degrees, the solution will boil and become an azeotropic mixture. The boiling point of sulfuric acid is very high, and its viscosity is very strong, which is due to the strong internal hydrogen bond. The melting point of sulfuric acid is 10.371 ℃. Adding water or sulfur trioxide will decrease the freezing point.
